Top Tips for Graduate Teachers: An Interview with Miss Stanley

At Luxe Learning Hub, we believe in supporting both experienced and new teachers as they navigate the rewarding, yet sometimes challenging, world of education. We had the pleasure of chatting with Brianna Stanley (or as some of you may know her as @itsmissbrianna), a passionate graduate teacher, to gather insights on how to make the most of your early years in teaching. Here are Brianna's top tips and must-haves for any new teacher starting out.

Top Tip for Graduate Teachers: Get Involved!

When asked what her top tip was for graduate teachers, Brianna didn't hesitate:

"Do it all...whether you are a classroom teacher or relief teacher, try your best to get involved. All the things university doesn't teach you—like how to set up a classroom, run excursions, or what actually happens in staff meetings—are some of the most valuable things to learn as a grad."

It's essential to dive into every opportunity that comes your way. From school musicals and sports days to the staff room chats, every experience outside of the classroom will contribute to your growth as a well-rounded educator. These are the moments that will shape your professional journey and help you learn the ropes beyond the lesson plans and theories learned at university.

Top 3 Graduate Must-Haves: Essentials for Your First Year

As any new teacher knows, having the right tools can make a world of difference. Brianna shared her top 3 must-have items that every graduate teacher should have in their toolkit:

1. A Cute Name Badge or Lanyard
- A personalised lanyard not only keeps your keys and ID handy but adds a touch of personality to your everyday teaching style.

2. Personalised Stamps
- Brianna’s number one time-saving tool: custom stamps! Whether you're marking homework or providing feedback, having a stamp with your name can save precious minutes during the marking process. Plus, students love receiving stamped feedback.

3. A Teacher Planner
- Staying organised is key, and nothing beats having a physical planner to jot down lessons, reminders, and events. A teacher planner helps you keep track of everything from weekly schedules to school events and student progress, ensuring you stay on top of your workload. Some of our favourite planners are from Mrs Edgar and The Daily Planner

Brianna's Favourite Quote to Live By

Teachers often leave a lasting impression on their students. Brianna shared this beautiful quote that encapsulates the essence of what it means to be a teacher:

"They may forget what you taught, but they will never forget how you made them feel."

This quote highlights the importance of connecting with students on a personal level. It’s not just about the content you teach, but the impact you have on a child’s emotional well-being, self-esteem, and love of learning.
